ERP Customization vs Configuration: Knowing the Line
By Techomaxx Team · November 28, 2026 · ERP
Configuration means adjusting settings within the ERP's existing capabilities, while customization means writing new code to extend it, and confusing the two leads to either overpaying for development or fighting the software's natural design.
We push clients toward configuration wherever the standard workflow is close enough to their needs, since configuration survives upgrades far more easily than heavy customization.
When customization is genuinely necessary, we isolate it into clearly defined extensions rather than modifying core ERP code, so future upgrades remain feasible.
